THE BALM OF GILEAD - HEALING HOME
We opened our first home in 2001 to house women who have come out of prostitution, and who have a sincere desire to change their lives and to grow as individuals. For a period of six months to a year, we provide an effective programme of restoration and healing that consists of a support group and courses with counselling. We also provide skills training.
The women that we work with have mostly been sexually abused as children or have come out of dysfunctional homes and families. A lot of them have been raped or abused or have become substance abusers. We provide skilled and highly trained facilitators and counsellors to assist them in their process of dealing with these issues in their lives.
We now run a second stage home for woman with their children who have already completed the six-month programme that we provide, and will take in women who have completed first stage elsewhere. Some of these woman are studying or working.
INTER OUTREACH MINISTRIES is committed to training and equipping workers.
The church of Jesus Christ needs to become a "safe place" in the midst of a hostile world. In order for Christians to become the "Samaritans" they should be to the wounded and bleeding on the highways of life, we have seen the need to provide training and to network with other ministries of similar vision. The training we provide will help to mobilize workers as grace-full carers to heal the broken hearted and to set the captives free.
LOOKING FORWARD:
Recently the Lord showed me it is time to pass on the baton of what I have done with working with broken people to others.
I have always had a desire to train up and to mobilize workers into frontline ministry, which is why I wrote the manual Developing Care Givers. We will now be turning the ministry home into a training centre when once we build the first floor with four extra rooms on, although we will still take in a few second stage women but no longer first stage.
We will be taking in students for a few months at a time and bringing in different speakers who work with broken people in the inner city to present teaching and pass on their knowledge.
It is time for more people to be raised up for this type of work.
I want to share a prophecy I heard in a church a number of years ago, it was probably about 1998 or 1999 when I heard it:
The person said they saw a person in their vision who heard a strange sound on the ground, and they put their ear to the ground and asked, "Lord what it that sound?"
And the Lord said, "It is an army of Samaritans taking the wounded into the healing homes!"
I was so excited when I heard that word because I had a heart for a healing home even then but had not opened one yet, but I do believe that now the Lord is going to lead a lot of people to open homes of healing, and so far I know of three or four that have opened and many more who said they would like to open homes, so it is time for that to happen.
